The
History of Orthopaedics
The
history of Orthopaedics as a discipline began in the 18th century,
marked by the publication of a monograph by French physician Nicolas
Andry (Paris, 1741). This monograph is the origin of the term
"orthopaedics." Andry derived the word "l' orthopedie"
from the Greek phrase meaning "straight child." Orthopedy
became surgical only recently in the history of medicine.
One of the book's illustrations principle is depicted by the drawing
of the tree: "bone is not an inert material, but a dynamic
structure that responds to stimuli." The West Coast Orthopaedics'
logo was inspired by this picture, substituting the tree with
the Florida palm for geographic identification.
The Philosophy
We are a unique and diversified Practice that offers patients
comprehensive treatment within a highly integrated health care
system. Relying on the strength of our three
physicians and three physician
assistants, combined with our partnerships with HEALTHSOUTH
Citrus Surgery Center and Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center,
you can be certain that the care you receive is extraordinary.
Our goal is simple: Return our patients to normal function and
an active life style as quickly and safely as possible.
Nicolas Andry said it well:
"We were born the ones for the others, it is necessary to
avoid having anything of shocking, and even if one were alone
in the world, it would be advisable not to neglect its body at
the point to let it come deformed, which would be to go against
the intention even of the Creator. It is on this principle that
orthopedy is founded."
